Amazing part 1
We turned what should have been one of the most embarassing ever days for CFC into an absolute legendary match on Sunday 5th November 2006.
9 blokes turned up for a game at Grovehill against high-flying AC Hemel (4th in the league compared to our rock bottom). No Manager, no lino, no subs and 2 men short of a starting 11. Pitiful (and something that we all need to make sure NEVER happens again).
Ben and Neil fathered the playing system, whilst the rest of the team decided that it was a 2 level game plan - go for it to start and hope that having 9 men confused the other lot so much we'd win, with the reserve plan to play like show ponies on a cry of "Brazil" and enjoy what we could of the game if we got on the end of a drubbing,
The pre-match prediction that we'd be 3 up in half an hour (level 1 plan) strangely came to fruition! With us still holding a 3-1 lead at half time, the impossible looked on...
Second half came and went with a goal for each team - they made it 3-2 and it started to feel a bit desperate, we needn't have worried, Dave Lawless coolly taking his 2nd of the game to match Berryman's first half brace and ice the cake 15 minutes from the end. Last 10 was a siege, but it was a siege we never really looked like losing.
Final score AC Hemel 2 - 4 CFC
The 9 CFC legends were :
Chris Evans - GK
Neil Cundale - Right Back
Martin Eccles - Centre Back
Stuart Darrington - Left Back
Paul Berryman - Right Mid
Ben Kennedy - Centre Mid
Dave Markwick - Centre Mid
John McCarthy - Left Mid
Dave Lawless - Centre Forward
Amazing part 2
Winning away from home the week after - with a clean sheet. New CFC record - 2 league wins in a row. If this continues it's just possible we might not finish bottom this year. For the first time, ever.
Kings Langley CC AMS 0 - 1 CFC
Footballs
We now have a big bag full of orange balls which match very nicely the . . . .
New Kit
Looks lovely, has our sponsor on the front (Grand Junction Arms) and has had the psychologically boosting effect we'd hoped for (2 wins and a narrow 3-2 defeat away from home in the first 3 games.)
Bibs and other stuff
We got the lot this season. New bibs, 10 (yes ten) football inflation adapters and a pump.
Social Events
In the bag - Race Night - a good laugh and £800 into the clubs kitty. Thanks mainly to Chris Evans, Dave Lawless and the returning Mark Walmsley for being the biggest losers on the night.
Up and Coming - go to the Forum - but the afternoon of the 17th November should be kept free - it's looking like the Festival of Erotica at Olympia is a goer for the Friday skivers club (" yeah, yeah, am in a meeting in town - can't be disturbed...") 10 VIP tickets to Stringfellows are being chucked into the pot for a quick beer with some trim to look at on the way home too.
